Man charged after brazen overnight burglary spree in Cambridge

Police have arrested and charged a man following what is described as a brazen overnight run of burglaries across Cambridge.

Reports began coming in early Saturday morning from residents who discovered their vehicles had been broken into while they slept, with property stolen from inside several cars.

Police units, including a Dog Squad, were deployed to track down the offender. At one of the scenes, a police dog picked up a scent trail that led officers directly to a suspect along with items believed to have been taken during the spree.

An 18-year-old man was taken into custody and is due to appear in Hamilton District Court on Friday, January 30. He faces charges including burglary and unlawfully interfering with motor vehicles, with Police warning further charges or arrests remain a possibility as enquiries continue.

The behaviour has been condemned by authorities. Residents are reminded to to remain vigilant and secure their vehicles at all times, lock doors and remove valuables from sight.

Anyone who is a victim of burglary or has information relating to offending in Cambridge is urged to contact Police on 111 if it is happening now, or via 105 either online or by phone. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
