Winston Peters’ voting crackdown is a dangerous attack on belonging, he should feel ashamed

I don’t get why Peters is pushing this so hard. It feels like a way to limit people’s ability to have a say. I get that he’s saying only citizens should vote but that’s just not a realistic or fair view.
Someone standing up against Winny Peters voting crackdown itll do more harm than any good. You can not just take away right to vote just because they not got citizenship yet. Wy shold they be treated like second-class citizens??? mind blown
I’ll be honest, this opinion piece leaves me feeling pretty unconvinced. What exactly does Mr Peters hope to achieve by stripping voting rights from people who are already contributing to New Zealand society? It’s a bit puzzling to me why he’s so keen on drawing a harder line around democracy, especially when it seems like such a small number of people would be affected.
The way NZ First is actually framing this issue feels like a thinly disguised attempt to exclude people who don’t fit their narrow definition of good citizens.
