I think this article gets it right, Labour’s focus on practical commitments rather than empty promises is refreshing, especially after years of broken promises from the coalition government.
It may not necessarily resonate with New Zealanders who have become accustomed to grand promises from the ‘shady’ and ‘complainy’ politicians.. remains to be seen whether voters will be won over by Labour’s practical commitments and identifiable funding, in an uncertain economic climate.
Great finally hear a perspective that actually makes sense. It is a no brainer focusing on responsible policy is a clear plan, Hipkins and Labour are showing that they’re not all about grand promises lol unlike the idiots right now,.
Seems like someone has a clear-headed approach to governing haha love it.
I’m actually worried this is a load of PR spin, trying to make Labour look responsible by being too careful and not promising the world. It’s one thing to be fiscally responsible, but it’s another to make it look like you’re not really trying to make a difference. Seems to be more about being part of the same system that’s failed us in the past and the idea that taxing profits from property speculation is a good thing is a start, but it still really feels like a half measure that we’ve heard it all before, promises of “targeted” tax reform that always seem to benefit the rich.
At the end of the day, Labour’s approach does feel a little too timid, too focused on what they can afford to do rather than what they want to do. And what about the people who are already struggling to make ends meet? Will a few free GP visits and some extra funding for health actually make a difference? The article seems to be buying into the idea that this is a responsible government!
