Flaxmere man charged with multiple sexual offences

Authorities are investigating alleged serious sexual offending by a Flaxmere man and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

A 37-year-old man was arrested on Monday March 23 and appeared in the Hastings District Court yesterday.

He faces charges of abduction for sex, impeding breathing or blood circulation, two counts of unlawful sexual connection with a female over 16, and four counts of rape.

The man has been granted interim name suppression and has been remanded in custody. He is due to reappear in the Hastings District Court on April 14.

It is believed further offending may have occurred in the Hastings area between March 14 and 15.

Investigators acknowledge the distress involved in reporting sexual harm and say specialist staff are available to support victims and ensure complaints are handled safely and in confidence.
