Tim Jago’s criminal record deepens with fresh historical sex charge

Former ACT Party President Tim Jago has pleaded guilty to a further historical indecent assault charge dating back more than 30 years.

The charge relates to offending in 1995 and was admitted in the North Shore District Court following a fresh police investigation. He has been charged with sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection.

The latest case is separate from Jago’s earlier convictions involving two teenage boys he knew through an Auckland surf lifesaving club during the 1990s.

A jury found Jago guilty of eight historical sexual offences in August 2024. The former political party president was sentenced three months later to two years and six months in prison.

Jago led the ACT Party organisation from 2019 until his resignation in January 2023. His identity remained suppressed during the earlier proceedings before he was publicly named in January 2025.

Sentencing on the latest charge will take place at a later date.
