School Bus engulfed by fire near Leigh, children forced to evacuate

A school bus was engulfed by fire on Pakiri Road near Leigh yesterday, forcing four children to evacuate as flames tore through the vehicle.

Emergency services responded shortly before 8.30am and arrived to find the bus already extensively damaged.

All four children onboard were safely removed before the fire destroyed the bus. No injuries were reported.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze, but the vehicle was left gutted, its structure heavily damaged by the intense heat.

Pakiri Road was reduced to one lane as emergency services cleared the scene and managed traffic. Restrictions remained in place until about midday.
