Teen arrested, car impounded in Raglan street racing bust

A 19-year-old man has been arrested and had his vehicle impounded after illegal street racing in Raglan over the weekend.

Officers moved in after multiple vehicles were seen driving dangerously on Nau Mai Road, with reports of sustained loss of traction and high-risk behaviour late Saturday night.

The teenager was taken into custody about 1.30am Sunday.

He faces charges of operating a vehicle causing sustained loss of traction and excess breath alcohol. He is due to appear in Hamilton District Court on March 27.

The arrest comes as part of an ongoing crackdown targeting street racing across the Waikato, with officers focusing on high-risk drivers, repeat hotspots and late-night activity.

Authorities say the behaviour continues to put lives at risk, damage roads and disrupt communities.
